How to use Google Docs offline on desktop

 


Access your files from anywhere by using Google Docs offline.

To access your Google Docs, you are not required to be connected to the internet.

If you use Google Docs, you might believe that being reliant on Wi-Fi prevents you from taking advantage of the nice weather.

To move your desk to a park, coffee shop, or wherever else you might want to work, you can access Google Docs offline.

How to use Google Docs on a desktop while offline

You can make certain files or all of your files offline accessible.

If you only have a small amount of storage space on your computer or only require access to one or two files, selecting individual files can be useful.

Here's how to access specific Google Docs on a desktop while offline.

1. Launch Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

2. Log into your Google account at Google.com.

3. Select Docs by clicking the dot grid in the top right corner of Google.

4. Select the file you want to make available offline by clicking the three stacked dots next to it under Recent Documents.

5. Select Offline available.

You can easily make all of your files accessible offline with a few clicks if space is not an issue.

Here's how to use Google Docs on a desktop computer while offline.

1. Launch Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

 

2. Log into your Google account at Google.com.

3. Select Drive from the dot grid in the top right corner of Google.

4. Press the gear icon located in the top right corner.

6. Select the checkbox next to Recent Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides that you've created, opened, and edited.

You must visit docs.google.com and download the Chrome Docs Offline extension in order to access your documents.

The Google Docs page may open slowly on your computer, but it will eventually load.

When a file is accessible offline in Google Docs, this icon should appear next to it.Files that are accessible offline will show a small icon next to them once it opens that resembles a checkmark inside a circle.

This icon's text will say "Available offline" when you hover over it.Clicking the offline document will allow you to begin writing or editing.The next time your computer connects to the internet, the document will automatically update.

 

How to use Google Docs on a phone while offline

On your iPhone or Android device, you can also access Google Docs when you're offline.

Here's how to download these documents to your mobile device so they are accessible offline.

1. From the Google Play store or the Apple App Store, download the Google Docs app.

2. Start up the app.

3. Select the document you want to access offline by tapping the three dots (...) next to it.

4. Select Offline availability.

Now, you can use the Google Docs app on your mobile device to access and edit your documents without using Wi-Fi or your mobile data.

The next time your phone connects to Wi-Fi, any documents you've modified will be automatically updated.
